A key challenge for SMEs transitioning to Net Zero is raising funding for the capital expenditure involved such as solar panels, battery storage, electric vehicles and EV charging infrastructure to name a few examples.
There are four ways to reduce costs for sustainability action - Grants, VAT Exemptions, Green Loans, and Finance. The UK asset finance market provides £’bns of funding every year to SMEs (particularly through Hire Purchase) and is a key source of funding for Net Zero expenditure.
Surrey Sustainability Grant Funding
Subject to eligibility conditions, this provides £5k - 10k grants towards an electric van. Additional government grants are available for installing EV charging in works places (Workplace Charging). Find out more.
A3 Van Scheme (SCC)
REPF will be distributed by District / Borough council's in Surrey's rural areas. If you are a business or community group in Guildford, Tandridge or Waverley you may be eligible to use REPF for sustainabiltiy initiatives. Surrey Expressions of Interest from Sept 2023. Find out more.

National Sustainability Grant Funding
Retrofit Academy has fully and partially-funded places
for energy efficiency training and retrofit installation. Funding from Dept of Energy Security & Net Zero has created 900 places to help with building decarbonisation across the UK. Find out more.

Skills
The EV Workplace Charging Scheme provides a grant towards the cost of charge points at businesses and places of work. It will cover up to 75% of the costs, capped at a max of £350 per socket, and can be applied to up to 40 sites per business. Find out more.
Workplace Charging
The EV Infrastructure Grant from OZEV is similar to the Workplace charging grant, providing up to £350 per charging socket, but it also allows for up to £500 per EV charge parking space, to support infrastructure requirements eg. running power to the site. Find out more.

Taking advantage of any available grants is key. Grants reduce the cost of the expenditure and in turn this reduces the amount of any funding the SME needs to raise.
